First sort out your needs and identify what are the things that to expect from your nanny. When you are looking for your nanny through advertisement, nanny referral agency or online give the best description about yourself to them. This will give you a much better chance of finding the perfect nanny and reduce the applications from those who are not matching with your needs. To do this, define the life style and characteristics of your family. Describe your kids personality, their age, schedule, after school activities that your kids are involved in etc. You can also mention what you are willing to offer for nanny and what benefits she will get?

Then define your perfect prospective. Her characteristics, experience and educational qualifications, flexibility and specific job duties and all. When you find prospective candidates arrange interview process that consist of two interviews at least. Your children should not be presented in the first interview since in first interview you are trying to decide should I introduce my children to this person or not. You may ask questions from prospective nannies regarding creativity, dependability, strengths, weaknesses, self-esteem etc. Check their ability to communicate. Let her know about your house rules. When you will have interviewed all the prospective nannies and get enough details on them you can arrange your second interview.

Second interview must be done with all family members. Check references and contact details, driving license etc. After the second interview few candidates may have shortlisted and few can be left as prospective candidates. So give them a trial run. This will allow you to recognize the best possible nanny for your child. When you choose to offer the job to the best nanny, hire her with a well detailed written agreement. You can request her to keep a nanny's diary, You can use a nanny spy camera to monitor your nanny's activities when you are away. A new nanny does not know how your family operates and you should give her some time to get familiar with your family's environment. When you hire the nanny that match your needs, try keep a good relationship by communicating and respecting her.

When you find a prospective nanny who seems to be a matching nanny for your needs, do not offer her the job straightaway. You should interview your prospective nannies and for those who did well in the interview should get a trial run as well. This process will help you to determine who is the perfect nanny for you. So what to ask from a nanny at the interview?

First make a standardize question list to ask from each nanny and stick to those questions. Ask why they become a nanny? Answer should be something like they enjoy taking care of kids. Ask where they have worked previously and why quit from there. Ask about their qualifications and get to know whether they are still wiling to learn further in childcare if necessary or not. You can ask questions on their experience & training, daily routines, approach towards this job etc. After the interview, if you are satisfied about your candidate you can move forward by  arranging a second interview. There you can discuss the payment method, check their references, give the details of duties your nanny should do, talk about dress code and holidays, paying methods for extra hours and etc. Also it is better take note of each nanny's answer to your questions if there are lot of candidates.

When doing the interview try to meet your candidates with your child. Notice both nanny's and your child's reactions. Ask when she would be able to work. Check their flexibility on your work schedule. The process of a choosing a nanny can be hard. You want to make sure that you do not have to go on same process in few months time. So ask about your candidate's future plans. Even if a candidate performed well at the interview, do not give her the job without giving a trial run.  Once you have completed asking questions from your questions list give your candidate the chance to address any issues or concerns she may be wanting to clear out. Hope this helped you to have a basic idea on how to interview a nanny. Good luck!

Nanny Contract - It is simply a list of terms to which both parties agreed. But written agreement provides to you and to your nanny a legal document stating the expectations of both parties and how the negative situations will be handled. Another fact is agreement are also legally enforceable in a court of law. Make sure your agreement out line every details regarding your nanny's job. Below I mention few important details you should enter to your agreement.

Your nanny's primary job would be caring your child. So include all the childcare duties your nanny would be doing. You may include things like taking your child to school, picking from after school activities, preparing meals for your child, dressing, brushing teeth, scheduled hours for any playing activities etc. The agreement may also include safety caring of your child, monitoring educational work etc. If you are willing to get help from your nanny to household work, include those household duties in the agreement as well. It can be regarding your child's work or over all household work. Clean up the kitchen, dining table and child's laundry, vacuuming, making meals would be few examples.

Something you do not want to forget is, mentioning the work schedule of your nanny in the work agreement. How many hours per day, per week, and what are the days to work - include those in the agreement. Also mention a leave plan, how the leaves are allowed. Like any work agreement a well detailed paying method. How much do you expect to pay your nanny for a hour? How much for an extra hour? Will the payments are deducted by leaves? etc. Also clearly mention when the payment review will take place. In case, your nanny may need to her vehicle to transport your child, will you are willing to pay the fuel charge? Mention those as well.

The agreement should clearly outline what can lead to termination of your nanny's job. So I hope this will help you to make a good agreement with your nanny. Try to make it simple, but do not try to shortened it.

In the busy world with your tight work schedule you may be thinking about how to take care of your child. Well....popular solutions are getting a nanny or take your child to a day care center. There are big differences in those two options. In any person's life childhood is the most critical time as it decides the one's mental and physical abilities as well as the social skills. So your child must have the maximum care he/she could have and it is a parent's responsibility to give and/or arrange the best care for the child either by hiring a nanny or using day care center services.

A nanny can provide your child personal attention as she looks after only your child. But day care centers cannot pay one-to-one attention for every child where your child may not get the best care and a nanny look after your child from your home where your child is more comfortable, more familiar and more secure to be with. On the other hand in the day care centers your child may come in to harm by other children like getting infected from other kids. Another important fact is transportation. If you decide to hire a nanny, your child does not need to travel a lot as far as he/she can get better care from home but if your choice is using day care center services, you have to allocate some of your time to take your child to there as well as your child too may get tired and may not feel well as he/she is traveling. Also, if your child is participating in any activities such as swimming, volleyball practices, football practices or etc day care center service providers may not feel comfort on taking your child to such activities and spend time for your child. So if you hire a capable nanny she can take your child to outdoor activities while day care centers cannot afford to do that. You can also request your nanny to do some extra activities with your child like singing songs, playing guitar, playing small  games which are suitable for children, helping on doing home work, preparing dinner, preparing tea (depends on your child's age) and etc. By do so they can enjoy their time when you are not there. Also you can hire a nanny who is good in helping to your child your child's weakest subject say mathematics, your nanny will be able to give some teaching lessons. Day care centers...No way! Your nanny will be able to help your household work as well.

OK..so how to find a good nanny for your child in a city like Toronto? Well..there are many online nanny services and reputed agencies who help to get services of experienced nannies in Toronto.
